Sullivan County, NY
Sullivan County is located in upstate NY within the Catskill mountain region. From the 1920s though the 1960s Sullivan County, colloquially known as the “Borsch Belt” was home to over 500 resorts and summer bungalow colonies and at it’s height accommodating up to 150,000 guests a year. With the decline of tourists by the 1970s, most of resorts were closed. Some were demolished. Some were repurposed. Some still abandoned. My family moved to the area in 2016 from Queens, NY. Without much background knowledge of the region prior to relocating, It has been an exploration of past, present, rural gentrification and the forgotten in an environment that is not part of my history but a place that is home. This project is ongoing.
